Why this moment
In 2015, Christopher Rudd founded RudduR Dance with a belief that has never wavered: that dance can better the world.
Eleven years later, that belief has taken us from a studio in New York City to stages across the United States, France, Trinidad and Tobago, Burkina Faso, and Ecuador. It has brought us to the Apollo Theater, Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New Victory Theater, and Works & Process at the Guggenheim. It has produced works that center Black and queer stories, challenged what concert dance and contemporary circus can be, and opened doors for artists historically pushed to the margins of both the stage and the boardroom.
This summer, we celebrate 11 years of RudduR Dance with a goal of $11,000 - one thousand dollars for every year we have been making work together. The campaign closes July 25th, a couple of days after the birthday of our founder and Executive Artistic Director, Christopher Rudd.

The work on stage
RudduR Dance creates performances that reflect society through contemporary ballet, circus arts, and theatre. Our works investigate the human condition, center African Diaspora communities, and insist that the most urgent stories deserve the most extraordinary stages. From WITNESS to TOUCHÉ to LIFTED, Rudd's work has reached over five million people worldwide.
The people who make it
We pay our artists at living-wage rates. We provide physical therapy, daily technique classes, and a resident Intimacy Director. The first in any dance company in the world. We compensate artists for auditions. Caring for the people who make the work is inseparable from the work itself.
The next generation of leaders
Through our Artist-Administrator Career Pathway Program, we train Black and POC company artists in grant writing, operations, marketing, and donor communications. We're building a pipeline of arts leaders who hold power inside institutions, not just on stage.

This campaign is about more than celebrating eleven years. It is about making the next chapter possible.
WITNESS: 250 Years
A major new work and civic event anchored in Harlem, centered on the United States' 250th anniversary. It asks hard, necessary questions about who this country has included and who it has left behind. It combines performance, a moderated civic assembly focused on repair and racial equity, and a free public activation to keep it community-facing and accessible.
Our own nonprofit status
We are building toward independent nonprofit status, giving RudduR Dance the autonomy and institutional infrastructure to grow on our own terms.
A commitment to reparative justice
We are beginning to say publicly what has shaped our work for years: as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, RudduR Dance is committing to frame our programming through the lens of reparative justice. We believe the arts have a role to play in repairing what has been broken. Not just symbolically, but materially. That commitment will shape everything we build from here.

When I founded RudduR Dance eleven years ago, I did not have a strategic plan, a development department, or a roadmap for success. I had a belief that the stories I carried mattered, and that dance could help people see one another more fully.
What followed has exceeded anything I could have imagined.
Since then, together, we have created work that has reached prisons, schools, theaters, museums, public parks, and communities across the United States and around the world. We have brought people together not simply to watch a performance, but to wrestle with difficult questions, share stories, and imagine new possibilities.
None of that happened alone.
Every artist who stepped into the studio, every audience member who took a chance on our work, and every supporter who chose to invest in our vision helped build what RudduR Dance has become.
This campaign celebrates eleven years of that shared journey. More importantly, it invests in what comes next. It helps us create bold new work, support the artists who make it possible, and continue building spaces where people can gather, connect, and imagine a more just and compassionate future.
